END OF TERM UPDATE N0. 80

Dear Parents,

On behalf of the Board, Staff and Students of The Bells, I wish to express my profound gratitude for the tireless sacrifices you make in these very trying times to ensure that the children are comfortable.  Your love and care for the school cannot be taken for granted.  We also thank God for the relative peace that we enjoyed in this election year.  The situation will have been worse if God did not take control of a lot of situations.  The Lord will continue to take you to greater heights in all your endeavours.  Amen.

YEAR 12 EXAMINATIONS

The election year has been responsible for a lot of changes, however, we have also been proactive in organization of various   mock examinations.  The Year 12 students wrote three mock examinations.  The WASSCE Examinations will start on Monday 8th April.  We trust God for a hitch-free period.  We implore you to ensure that the children do not return to school with phones or other contraband items when they go on requested short visits.  Discovery of these items will meet with stiff sanctions.

UNSCHEDULED VISITS

We want to re-iterate that the days set aside for visiting children still remains third Sunday of the month.  This is the acceptable time to bring home cooked meals/snacks for children.  We will no longer condone the delivery of food items during the week or on weekends that are not scheduled for visits.  This is very essential for the safety of children and also to help us to be aware of the source of all that they ingest.  Confiscated food items will be trashed as soon as they are found.  Those who make unscheduled visits will also be turned back at the gate especially on weekends.  If it becomes expedient to visit the school, calls should be made to the Principal or Vice-Principals before you set out.

ELECTRONIC TABLETS

The tablets for Basic 7 students have now been supplied.  Please ensure that the children do not put in music, video or games as these materials are distractions.

CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL GENERAL CERTIFICATE OF SECONDARY EDUCATION (IGCSE)

The school recorded 100% in six subjects while in ten other subjects between 70% - 95% and below 70% in two subjects.  In order to ensure complete success for the next sets of students, we have organize qualifying examinations to determine the students who will sit for the examination.  The students who qualify to sit the examinations have been addressed.

RELEASE OF STUDENTS

It has been observed that some parents request the release of their children from school at extremely inconvenient times.  This is not beneficial to children and does not help the flow of knowledge.  We will no longer release children during school periods except in extraneous circumstances e.g. health.  You are encouraged to plan your programmes around the calendar of events.

BASIC 9 EXAMINATIONS

The Pre-mock examinations for Basic 9 commenced on Monday 11th March and ended Monday 18th March.  Thereafter, they returned to classes to correct their mistakes.  On 25th March, the final Mock examination commenced and ended on 2nd April, 2019.  The students will return to their classes immediately after to put finishing touches to preparations for both Cambridge Checkpoint and Basic Education Certificate Examination.  Basic 9 students will proceed on holiday on Thursday 11th April and return on Thursday 18th April, 2019.  The BECE examinations will hold from 25th April – 10th May 2019.  The Ogun State BECE will take place thereafter.  It is pertinent that all fees be settled before resumption on 18th April as students will not be allowed to sit for examinations without evidence of payment

MUSLIM STUDENTS’ SOCIETY DAY

The MSS Day was beautiful.  We appreciate you for your presence and donations.  The Lord will continue to enrich your purses. Amen.

CONTRABAND ITEMS

The school has a list of items allowed and only for resumption at the beginning of the term and at resumption from mid-term break.  Fizzy/carbonated drinks are not included in the list.  We implore you to avoid sending fizzy drinks, canned/bottled items.  They will be confiscated upon arrival in school.  You must also ensure that children do not return to school with alcoholic beverages.  Children who are caught will be severely punished.

ELECTRONIC WHITE BOARDS

We took delivery of two new Interactive White Boards donated by the Alumni and they have been installed.  The teachers have undergone training to enable them use them to make their classes interactive.  These will cater for the needs of all kinds of learners.

CULTURAL/LITERARY DAY

The day was very beautiful.  We use this medium to express our appreciation to those who made donations in cash and in kind to the programme.  We pray that you will never know lack in your family.  Amen.

JAMB UTME

Preparations are in top gear for the examination which will take place as from 11th April according to the JAMB examination body.  We are not leaving any stone unturned.  Please encourage the children to put in their best as they prepare.
