END OF TERM UPDATE N0. 78

Dear Parents,

On behalf of the Board, Staff and Students of The Bells, We appreciate your love and support throughout the term, the Lord Almighty grant us peace all round.  Amen.

WASSCE/NECO

The West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations commenced on Tuesday 27th March and ended on Monday 14th May, 2018.  The results were released on Thursday 5th July, 2018.  The school achieved 100% Credit – Distinction in twenty-five out of twenty-eight subjects.

This is the first time in the last fifteen years that the school has recorded 100% Credit-Distinction in Mathematics.  We commend the efforts of the teachers and learners who made this happen.  The National Examination (NECO) started on 21st of May and ended on Tuesday 10th July, 2018.  We also expect to have good results.

CAMBRIDGE CHECKPOINT EXAMINATION (BASIC 9)

The school recorded the best results so far this year with nineteen out of twenty students who sat for the external examinations scoring from credit to distinction in the three(3) subjects offered (Mathematics, English and Science).  We commend the effort of the teachers and students for this feat.  Preparations are in top gear for the next set of students as no child will be left behind.

ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

The school had conducted entrance examination on three separate dates. The next examination comes up on 1st September, 2018.  However, we can organize exams for those who may not be available in September.  The pupils will be called in on 4th August to take measurements for various types of uniforms in preparation for the 2018/2019 academic session.

HEALTH OF STUDENTS

The students stayed very healthy during the third term.  Visits to the hospital were at the barest minimum.  The use of mosquito nets was emphasised and nets were installed on their dining hall windows where students have preparatory classes at night.  The sickbay was also mobile as the nurses meet the students in the dining halls after every meal to administer necessary drugs.  This helped to nip every minor ailment in the bud.

FURNISHING OF HOSTEL COMMON ROOMS

The students need time to relax during the weekends and also to keep them busy.  We plan to furnish the four common rooms where televisions and cable television are already available.  This will also beautify the hostel as the students will be able to display artworks and paper decorations in their common rooms.

PURCHASE OF SMART BOARDS/LEARNING SOFTWARES

In order to stay in touch with modern trends, we propose to purchase two modern smart boards and learning softwares for the schools to make learning attractive to the learners.      There is also need for training of teachers to use the smart boards during the holidays.

ICT SUITE

During the next academic session, we plan to purchase at least twenty-five computers to upgrade our operations.  This will enable to us take active part in the World Championship (Certiport Microsoft Office specialist) even when the students do not have personal laptops.

BASIC 9 EXTENSION CLASSES

The school has decided to organise extension classes for Basic 9 students to ensure greater success in the forthcoming BECE and Cambridge Checkpoint examinations.  The students are expected to resume on Sunday 19th August 2018.  The bill for the extension classes will be N40,000.  Day students are encouraged to stay in the hostel during this period.

YEAR 12 EXTENSION CLASSES

The Year 12 students are expected back in school for extension classes on Sunday 12th August, 2018.  These classes are COMPULSORY for all students in Year 12.  Registration for GCE is strictly prohibited by the school.  We expect compliance on the part of parents.  We will be putting finishing touches to our preparations for both IGCSE and WASSCE.  We seek your cooperation to get resounding success in all examinations.

CONTRABAND ITEMS

The school’s code of conduct states clearly that students found with contraband items like cash, phones or other food items not permitted in the school will be severely punished.  We implore you to check the children before they resume in school to ensure these items are not brought back to school.
