28th July, 2017.

END OF TERM UPDATE N0. 75

The 2016/2017 session has come to a successful end.  We give God all the glory for His abundant mercies, support and love towards every member of the school community.

I also wish to express my profound gratitude to all who attended the 20th Valedictory Service/Speech & Prize Giving Ceremony on Saturday 15th July, 2017.  Your presence was very well appreciated.  I commend the students for their excellent presentations.  They surpassed our expectations.

EXAMINATIONS

All examinations were concluded without a hitch.  The WAEC/SSCE results were excellent with 100% Distinctions/Credits achieved in 20 out of 26 subjects.  98.5% in English and Mathematics, 98% in Physics, 95% in Government, 95.5% in Biology and 96% in Economics.  We are most grateful to God for the outcomes.

YEAR 12 (SS3) EXTENSION CLASSES

The extension classes for Year 12 (SS3) studentS will commence on 13th August, 2017.  All students in Year 12 are expected to be around as absentees will be sanctioned.  Parents are not allowed to register the students for G.C.E.  We are looking forward to more success during the 2017 Cambridge IGCSE and the 2018 WASSCE.  THIS IS THE TIME TO PREPARE.

BASIC 9 (JS3) EXTENSION CLASSES

The Basic 9 (JS3) students are also expected to resume for extension classes on 20th August, 2017.  This is a novel idea and it is essential to ensure that the rate of success in the Cambridge checkpoint and the BECE is higher.  This will give room for regular drills to prepare well for the examinations.

The cost for boarding students is N30,000 while Day students are to pay N20,000.  Please note that the school buses will not run during the period.

HOLIDAY ASSIGNMENTS

The Year 11 (SS2) and Basic 8 (JS2) students who will be writing the Cambridge IGCSE examinations and Cambridge Checkpoint have been loaded with assignments.  Other students also have been set assignments which they will carry out for the first two weeks of the holidays after which assignments will be sent to their portals which must be turned in at the end of every week.  The answers to assignments for the first two weeks must be sent to their teachers’ e-mail addresses at the end of the second week.  Strict adherence is expected as sanctions will be imposed on disobedient students.

LAPTOPS

We would still like to appeal to those who have not purchased laptops for their children to do so as the computer-based tests have come to stay.  The bandwidth in the classroom blocks has been increased to enable students study with their laptops in the media rooms.

SWIMMING

The cost of swimming per term still remains at N5,000, we have not been able to receive enough payment to take the students out for the programme.  We encourage parents who have given written consents to make payment next term.

SCHOOL SHOES

This is to remind you that the children are to resume with two pairs of black low-heeled leather shoes and two pairs of black or brown trekkers for school.  These will be checked on resumption day.

TRAINERS

The first term is a sporting term and so it is imperative for all students to return with white or black trainers or a mixture of black and white.  Other colours will not be allowed.  These will be checked on resumption day.

NISSMUN

The 13th Edition of the Nigerian International Secondary School Model United Nations Conference will take place between 21st and 25th October, 2017 at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.  The fee for participation is N200,000.  The fee covers return ticket, conference registration, accommodation, feeding, transportation within and students’ pocket money.  The deadline for payment is 31st August, 2017.

BASKETBALL TRAINING

Students have expressed their interest in this sport.  As a result, the school engaged the services of a trained basketball expert in preparation for a major league during the 2017/2018 session.  The cost of training per term is N5,000.

HAIRCUT/STYLES

All boys must return with low-cut even hair upon resumption while girls must have neatly woven hair and in the style announced before vacation.  Strict adherence is advised as students will be sent back to do the needful if the need arises.

E-NOTES

The students have been provided their e-notes to enable them read ahead and carryout assignments.  Parents are encouraged to ensure that the students do not deface the books and that they do not forget the books at home upon resumption.

COMMUNICATION ON WHATSAPP

This has commenced.  We will send constant reminders of all details during the holidays.  We will appreciate your feedback.  Parents who have not submitted whatsapp numbers are encouraged to do so.
